CUNY Reading Corps
Dr. Miles co-founded CUNY Reading Corps, which trains graduate and undergraduate preservice teachers in Reading Ready and Reading Go!. These university students then serve as tutors for struggling readers in the NYC DOE. In academic year 2021-2022, the program trained 650 CUNY preservice teachers who tutored over 1,200 NYC DOE striving readers from underserved communities. This academic year, 2022-2023, the program aims to train 800 CUNY preservice teachers who will tutor over 2,700 students. Several NYC foundations have supported this work.
